EGPA rebrands as Potentia Energy: Enel Green Power Australia (EGPA), a joint venture between Italy’s Enel Green Power (EGP) and Japan’s INPEX Corporation, has been rebranded as Potentia Energy. It is headed by Werther Esposito as the CEO. The company has over 7 GW of solar PV, wind, storage and hybrid assets in its development pipeline for which it has already secured rights. It also has 4 operational solar power plants with 310 MW capacity across South Australia and Victoria and a 75 MW wind farm in Western Australia. EGP sold a 50% stake in its renewable energy business in Australia to Japanese oil company INPEX (see Italian Group Raising Money Through Stake Sale).
1.5 GWh BESS contract for Sungrow: Chinese solar PV inverter and energy storage system (ESS) manufacturer Sungrow will supply 1.5 GWh of its battery energy storage system (BESS) to Citicore Renewable Energy Corporation (CREC) in the Philippines. These will be integrated into CREC’s solar power projects representing a combined 302 MW. Sungrow will supply its PowerTitan 2.0 under the agreement to help store electricity that will otherwise be lost as abandoned light since all of the solar energy generated will not be consumed by the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP). The lead time, said Sungrow, is only 2 months from the agreement signing to the shipment of the initial batch as against the usual 6 months for overseas projects.
Waaree in Australia: India’s leading solar PV manufacturer Waaree Energies has incorporated its new wholly-owned subsidiary in Australia, named Waaree Renewable Energies Australia PTY Limited. It will focus on the renewable energy business in Australia, it shared in a stock exchange filing. Waaree operates 13.3 GW of manufacturing facilities, including 1.3 GW of Indosolar which the company acquired in May 2022. In December 2023, Waaree said it plans to establish a 5 GW module production capacity in the US and add cell capacity as well (see Waaree’s Solar Cell & Module Manufacturing Plans For US).
Monarto project secures approval: Flow Power says its 5 MW solar farm with up to 15 MWh of battery storage Monarto project has secured development approval in Australia. It will be located in South Australia’s Monarto region. This is the 1st in a portfolio of 4 nearly identical projects that the company is developing in the region.
Akuo lands a partner in New Zealand: France’s Akuo Energy has signed a development services agreement (DSA) with Murihiku Regeneration to progress the latter’s solar projects in Southland, New Zealand. Murihiku signed the agreement on behalf of the local council Hokonui Rūnanga. The duo will jointly progress solar power plants with up to 30 MW to 50 MW capacity with battery storage in the country.
LONGi expands in Australia: Chinese solar PV manufacturer LONGi Green Energy Technology has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Australian PV distributor Raystech Group. Under the agreement, Raystech will become the sole distributor of LONGi’s solar modules in the country starting 2025. LONGi will debut its cutting-edge HPBC 2.0 modules in Australia next year. In turn, Raystech will exclusively feature LONGi products in its solar module portfolio. Raystech has warehouses in every state and major city, including remote areas underserved by other distributors thus it says the company guarantees reliable access to LONGi products.
