Gurman: La serie Apple Watch estará equipada con cámaras para inteligencia visual

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the Cupertino-based brand could soon experiment with an unconventional idea in its Apple Watch series. In its latest newspaper, Gurman states that Apple is playing with the idea of adding cameras to its Apple Watch series. This would introduce some visual intelligence to its smartwatches, dropping the need for a smartphone for some tasks.

Apple Watch Series To Get Cameras In the Future

The presence of cameras powering visual intelligence would allow users to interact with the world around them via AI and smartwatches. The feature is already present on the iPhone 16 series with iOS 18.2 or later. For comparison, the feature brings a similar functionality to what Google does with its Lens. Having this feature straight from the smartwatch can be useful as the user wouldn’t need to interact with the smartphone, and a simple interaction with the watch could ease some things. For instance, they could point the camera to a particular object and look for it around the web for information, pricing, etc.

Both the Apple Watch and Watch Ultra will get cameras. The standard model will likely implement it inside the display. Meanwhile, the Ultra is said to get its sensor on the side alongside the crown and power button. It’s interesting to see that Apple could use the under-screen camera technology for the first time on the Apple Watch. Since this won’t be used for selfies, it does not need to compare with an iPhone camera. Also, it will give Apple more experience with this kind of technology, which could become the future of smartphone cameras.

Moving on, as promising as it looks, Apple fans probably will need to wait until 2027 to get their hands on the new technology. According to Gurman, the camera-equipped Apple Watches may launch only in two years. That would give Apple more time to work on this idea. The brand can further improve the technology, and also boost the capabilities of its Apple Intelligence.

It is worth noting that Apple Watch isn’t the only product to get cameras. According to reports, Apple is also testing AirPods with built-cameras which are also set to gain visual intelligence.
