Eyes on Us, Thornova start met de productie van 2.5 GW zonnepanelen in Indonesië

Module factory is now in full production on the island of Batam

Key Takeaways

  • Thornova Solar has commissioned solar PV module production in Indonesia with 2.5 GW capacity
  • It will produce the company’s PERC and n-type technology-based solar modules
  • The fully automated factory started commissioning in September and is now ready for customer orders

Solar PV manufacturer Thornova Solar has started the production of solar modules in Indonesia with a nameplate annual capacity of 2.5 GW saying this is in response to the shift in US regulations since the North American nation is its largest market.

The factory on Batam Island of Indonesia can produce modules based on both PERC and n-type technologies, according to the manufacturer. Modules ranging from 400 W in a full-black design are aimed for the residential market, up to 720 W for large-scale, ground-mounted utility-scale projects.

Fully-automated, the factory is powered by a 5G-AGV (automated guided vehicles) based transport system of mobile robots, and paired with the 5th generation mobile network, it adds. Its commissioning began in September 2024 and has now reached full-scale production to meet customer demand.

“The US is the most important market for Thornova Solar. Therefore, ensuring proper production capacity in accordance with the local regulations is mandatory to meet the increasing demand for our modules in this market,” said Thornova Solar spokesperson. “Furthermore, our plans go beyond providing modules from Indonesia. This is only the first step.”

Part of the Yuncheng Solar Technology Group, Thornova operates a 1.5 GW solar module factory in Vietnam that also exclusively focuses on the US market (see Thornova’s 1.5 GW Solar Module Factory Online).

By the end of 2024, the company that merged with its sister company Sunova Solar and retained Thornova Solar as the brand name, expects to achieve a cumulative operational capacity of 10 GW of PV modules and 9 GW of solar cells, as its representative shared with TaiyangNews at this year’s SNEC in China (see Sunova Solar’s Wide Array Of PV Modules Featured At SNEC 2024).
