  • DAS Solar plans to launch a 3 GW solar PV module assembly plant in France
  • The 3 lines with 1 GW capacity each will be stationed in Mandeure commune
  • The €109 million investment is phase I of its plans for a larger solar supply chain

Chinese solar PV manufacturer DAS Solar has revealed its plans to establish a solar module assembly plant in France with a 3 GW annual capacity for an investment of €109 million ($115 million). The proposed project will be the company’s maiden overseas factory that will generate up to 600 jobs in the country.

Local media reports say the Chinese company formalized its PV panel factory on Faurecia wasteland in Mandeure in the Doubs region, announcing it at an event organized along with the urban community Pays de Montbéliard Agglomération (PMA). The industrial site previously housed a manufacturing unit for Peugeot bicycles and was later taken over by automotive equipment maker Faurecia.

A proponent of n-type technology, DAS reportedly acquired the 100,000 m² industrial site for €1.2 million ($1.27 million) excluding tax. It will house 3 solar panel assembly lines of 1 GW capacity each. Currently, the company’s Chinese production capacity is 30 GW of modules and cells each (see DAS Solar Exhibited Latest Diamond Series TOPCon Back-Contact Cell Technology Module At SNEC 2024).

DAS Solar Vice President Shi Shi said this is Phase I of its plans to establish a complete PV supply chain in France. Local reports added that DAS has already entered confidentiality agreements for 3 other sites with major local industrial players.

The company is reportedly motivated by the European Union’s efforts to establish solar PV manufacturing in the bloc; however, it will target the African market as well.

This should be good news for the French solar PV manufacturing market where Carbon is planning 5 GW cell and 3.5 GW module production capacity annually, and expand to a cumulative 15 GW from 2030 (see CARBON Looking At Autumn 2025 To Launch Production).
